A Fancy Goose and Dr. Seuss (3 min, pt. 1) – Click Here

As kids, we all heard tons of cliché phrases from our parents.  So many in fact, by the time we became adults we forgot they actually meant something to us once upon a time.  We’ve heard them all so much, we even word vomit them out to others without even realizing it.  Especially, to our own children, nieces, nephews, and even grandkids.

Treat others as you want to be treated, don’t try and impress other people, be yourself, or don’t cry over spilled milk.

These moral codes appear to hold some sort of value when we’re younger but then as we age, it seems, we tend to forget about them.

Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.  – Dr. Seuss

This is my favorite quote from Dr. Seuss.  Although you’ve probably seen it a lot or heard it throughout your life, I don’t think most people listen to the simple advise given here.

To be honest, this lesson is hard learned and I still continue to struggle with it everyday.  When starting along this path of entrepreneurship, I couldn’t help but think, What will my family think of me? What will my friends say? What if I fail? Everyone is going to laugh when they hear ___________ (insert anything really).

Think about it.

When you go to post something on social media, are you doing it to truly help and connect with others or shine light on something or are you doing it to “show off” and get as many likes as you can.

We all can’t help but feed off of the amount of likes and comments we get. It’s part of the reason why we are all so scared to try something new and bold. No one wants to go against the grain. We have been taught since primary school to do what someone else tells us to or to get advise from someone and do it exactly as they do it.

What took me too long to re-realize is, WHO CARES?  You can’t judge your own satisfaction levels based upon other peoples expectations.  I’ve found most people who are judging you, making negative comments, or finding fault typically have problems with their own lives.  Most probably don’t even realize they are doing this but since they are miserable (no matter how many likes they get), they want to try and make you miserable.

At what point did we all become experts in everything and yet know nothing?

Next time you scroll past a status, photo, or video, check and see what your initial reaction is.  When you come across something, are you actively trying to make fun of it or nit pick?  Instead, why not try and pretend the 6 year old self in you is scrolling or watching the video?  How would the younger you react to it?  Would you laugh, cry, or just keep on scrolling?

Maybe you should instead be asking why this is your initial thought process.  Most people don’t like hearing the problem could be within.
